NJ Cannabis Regulatory Commission Adopts Interim Rules For Legal Marijuana Industry
Last February, Governor Murphy signed legislation that legalized recreational cannabis and set a deadline of Aug. 21 for the commission to establish its rules. While the law lays out the types of cannabis business licenses that will be available in New Jersey, it left the commission with autonomy to craft the rules that will govern the industry.
The law will allow only 37 new marijuana growers to be licensed before February 2023. But it did not set limits on the other types of licenses, which include manufacturing, delivery, wholesale, distribution and retail.

The New Jersey Cannabis Control Committee (CRC) met for the first time on Monday, immediately assuming control of the state’s growing medical marijuana program and taking the first steps toward creating a regulated, legal cannabis market.
CRC Chairwoman Dianna Houenou called the meeting to order and provided context for the task at hand. “Standing up an entirely new state agency is no small task. Starting today, the commission’s real work begins to establish and grow a responsible, regulated medical and personal use cannabis industry.”

The River Crossing Team is excited to announce our latest addition, Stephanie Albanese. Steph is a New Jersey native with significant political, governmental and legislative experience in both Congress and the New Jersey legislature.
For the past five years, Steph has served as the Legislative Director to State Senator Joseph F. Vitale, where she coordinated all legislative activity, policy research and stakeholder engagement for the Senator, including setting agendas for the Senate Health, Human Services, and Senior Citizens Committee hearings. Senator Vitale is recognized as the leading health care expert in the Legislature and Steph has been his primary aide covering this area. Stephanie also worked on the expansion of New Jersey’s medical marijuana program.

Murphy Announces $100 Million in Clean Transportation Projects: This week, Governor Murphy announced the establishment of the Office of Climate Action and the Green Economy and the creation of the New Jersey Council on the Green Economy.
The investment of $100 million in clean, equitable transportation projects are designed to improve air quality and reduce the effects of climate chance while helping to achieve the state’s clean energy goals of being 100% clean energy by 2050. Leveraging proceeds from New Jersey’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) and the Volkswagen Mitigation Trust Funds, this new funding will bring electrification programs, equitable mobility projects, and electric charging infrastructure to environmental justice communities across the state.
