As a mom of three boys, lobbyist and consultant at River Crossing, Janellen divides her time between the State House, the car and the baseball and soccer fields. Janellen has worked for over 20 years in the realm of policy and politics, primarily in New Jersey. The throughline of her career has been a commitment to improving the well-being of children and families. This work is primarily focused on education and extends to economic development, mental health, technology and other areas. At River Crossing, Janellen leads the firm’s education practice, and she is the vice chair of our technology practice.
Janellen has served on the boards of the NJ Schools Development Authority (SDA), the NJ Education Opportunity Fund (EOF), the Camden Prep Board of Trustees and on Governor Murphy’s transition team in 2017. Janellen has been recognized by ROI-NJ’s list of business leaders and Insider NJ’s Top 100 Lobbyists list.
In her early career, Janellen served in the public sector at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and as a fellow for the U.S. Senate Finance Committee. In addition, Janellen was the education policy advisor and Director of Policy for Governor Corzine. In that role, she led the creation of the School Funding Reform Act (SFRA), a major school construction funding initiative, and the Governor’s economic recovery response to the 2008 financial crisis. Janellen has also held several leadership roles in the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors at the Newark Charter School Fund and JerseyCAN.
