Stay-At-Home Order Lifted, Limits Raised for Gatherings: Governor Murphy has signed an executive order to lift the state’s stay-at-home order and raised the limit on indoor and outdoor gatherings.
Effective immediately, indoor activities will be permitted at whichever number is lower – 25% of a building’s capacity, or 50 people. Outdoor gatherings will be permitted up to 100 participants. Murphy anticipates being able to raise the limit on non-protest and non-religious activities to 250 people on June 22 and to 500 people on July 3.
Churches, synagogues, mosques and other houses of worship may reopen to indoor services with larger capacity limits – up to 50 people or 25% of a building’s capacity, whichever is lower.
Murphy to Nominate Fabiana Pierre-Louis to NJ Supreme Court: In a historic pick, Governor Phil Murphy selected South Jersey lawyer and former federal prosecutor Fabiana Pierre-Louis to serve on the NJ Supreme Court, replacing Walter Timpone who will reach the mandatory retirement age of 70 in November. If confirmed by the State Senate, Pierre-Louis, 39, will be the first black woman and only the third black justice to ever sit on the court.
“We will have a justice on our Supreme Court whose lived experience will educate her peers on the bench of our highest court as they grapple with these issues,” said Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver, the state’s first black lieutenant governor.
Pools to Reopen June 22: Governor Phil Murphy announced that pools owned by municipalities and private clubs will be able to open on June 22.
"We know a lot of people have been waiting for their ability to get back into the water. We don't blame them, and a lot of communities have been wanting to restart swimming as part of their recreational offerings," said Governor Murphy.
Murphy Announces NJ Transit Strategic and Five-Year Capital Plan: This week, Governor Murphy and Kevin Corbett, President and CEO of NJ Transit, announced the release of the agency’s Strategic and Capital Plan “NJT 2030.”
The plan includes a five year, nearly $17 billion capital program. This is NJ Transit’s first ever, long-term strategic plan, The capital program includes a wide range of projects aimed at promoting reliability, state of good repair and system expansion. Although funding must still be secured, the investments identified in the capital plan are needed to ensure New Jersey Transit provides a first-class experience for its customers.
