Gov. Phil Murphy announced this week he has chosen his longtime top transportation official as his new chief of staff.
State Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti will become third person to hold the job under Murphy, replacing outgoing chief of staff George Helmy, who is departing at the end of the month after four and a half years.
Gutierrez-Scaccetti, 64, an original member of the Democratic governor’s cabinet, will take over Monday, Oct. 2. She will continue to serve as transportation commissioner until January, Murphy’s office said.
